I had a client come in with a picture of a Sun/Moon/Star painting that he wanted to make for his wife for their anniversary.

The complexity of the art demanded that the Sun be fused. With that in mind we commenced to make the fusing piece. It needed to be cut to shape, and then the pattern of leaded glass surrounding it designed and built.
Multi-Glass-Medium Art is really cool, and something I have been doing for a long time. Usually it involves carved/blasted and leaded glass. This project, using fused glass, shows the potential there is for matching colors and patterns when lead lines would inhibit the creative process.
Here are some shots of the piece being made. The piece was then copper foiled, reinforced with copper / steel ribbon wire, soldered, framed in zinc and then waxed and buffed. See the finished and installed artglass in next section.
I have to say this was one of my top ten fun and challenging pieces. The clients were amazed at the likeness and the color combinations. By using fusible glass I was able to replicate the yellow and orange of the sun using the same yellow and orange frit as the glass in the stained glass areas.
sunshine and shadows bring the reality and glimmer to art glass. What an amazing medium to play in.....
